RAISSA NEMCHINSKAYA - THE CIRCUS ACTRESS
(RAISSA NEMCHINSKAYA - ARTISTKA ZIRKA)
Raisa Nemchinakaya was one of the legendary performers of the Soviet circus world. An aerial gymnast, she always worked without a net - both under the big top, as well as "under" a helicopter. She was frequently injured, but through sheer force of will, she always returned to her beloved profession.
The film was shot when the artist was 60 years old... when most circus performers have long since retired. But Nemchinskaya would not leave the circus.
It was in the circus where she met her tragic end in a fall at age 64, taking her bows after the end of a performance.
